Derek A. Terry
Rev. Derek Terry is a distinguished pastor, social justice advocate, entrepreneur, and artist based in Cincinnati, Ohio. He serves as the senior pastor of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, a diverse and inclusive congregation committed to social justice and community engagement. In addition to his pastoral duties, Rev. Terry is the Program Director for the Open and Affirming Coalition, a national nonprofit in covenant with the United Church of Christ, where he promotes LGBTQIA+ inclusion and equity within the church and broader society.
In 2024, Rev. Terry expanded his artistic endeavors by releasing the Vibrant Voices Coloring Book: Coloring the Stories of Black Visionaries. This 136-page, spiral-bound book features 62 images celebrating influential Black figures and events, each accompanied by detailed information to educate and inspire readers of all ages. The coloring book is available for purchase through his official website. He has also authored several other works, including God Loves Me & So Do I (2015), The Shattered Ornament (2017), the Black and Queer Icons 2019 Calendar, and the Black & Proud Rising Stars 2022Calendar. Additionally, he has created a host of free, downloadable coloring books and pages, such as The Regular King, Black and Queer, and Black Women' Freedom Fighters.
Rev. Terry gained national attention in 2015 on the Oprah Winfrey Network's Iyanla: Fix My Life, where he courageously came out as gay, sharing his personal journey and advocating for authenticity and acceptance. As an entrepreneur, he creats and sells peace bead bracelets, apparel, and art online. A passionate visual artist, he creates compelling works in graphite, watercolor, gouache, marker, and other media. Rev. Terry is also an active presence on social media, where he spreads messages of hope, justice, and love.
